Quick Start Guide
The basics of Pyramid Solitaire Saga
In Pyramid Solitaire Saga,
the goal is to remove cards from the pyramid by matching them with the
card on the deck, which has to be one higher or one lower. So for
instance, in the example below, the Jack card is on the deck, which
means you can remove the 10 card (one lower), or the Queen card (one
higher).
The following cards can be matched:
A < 2 > 3
2 < 3 > 4
3 < 4 > 5
4 < 5 > 6
5 < 6 > 7
6 < 7 > 8
7 < 8 > 9
8 < 9 > 10
9 < 10 > J
10 < J > Q
J < Q > K
Q < K > A
K < A > 2
Important
in considering your strategy is also which card to remove if you can
choose to remove one of multiple cards. In the example below, you can
choose to remove either the yellow, the blue, or the red A-card. In this
case, if you remove the yellow A card, you can also remove the 2-card
and the 3-card, all in one move. If you choose to remove any of the
other cards, you will only be able to remove one card.
Streaks
One of the things in Pyramid Solitaire Saga that can make or break a game are streaks. It allows you to remove a lot of cards at once, and boosts your score.
By
connecting multiple cards without switching a deck card, you create a
streak. In the simple example below, you see how you can remove all the A
and K cards, by building a streak.
Learning to recognize potential streaks is what will help you to survive in the later levels of the game.
Joker cards
A
joker card can be used to match any card, but as you get only one joker
card per level (unless you buy a bonus joker). There are a few tips to
take into consideration to make best use of it.
USE A JOKER TO MATCH A DIFFICULT CARD
If
you know you've had a lot of the same cards flipping through the deck,
and now you're left with a couple cards that would match with those
previous cards. In the example below, if you've gone through a lot of 3
cards earlier, there won't be many left in the deck, so this would be a
good use of the Joker card. It opens up the cards below, and it removes
cards that you are unlikely to remove with the cards from the deck.
USE A JOKER TO MAKE A STREAK
Streaks are important opportunities in Pyramid Solitaire Saga,
and there are few things more annoying then having to interrupt a
streak because you're missing one crucial card. In this case, you can
use the joker card to bridge two matching cards.
In the
simple example below, you have the Q card on the deck. If you play the
Joker, it can act as a J card, creating, or extending the streak, into
Q-J-10-9.
Scoring tips
THE JOKER, TO PLAY OR NOT TO PLAY:
If
you can finish a level without using the joker, you will receive 2,000
bonus points. However, you also receive 400 points for every card you
have left on the deck at the end. So if you can finish the level using
less than 5 cards, it will earn you more points than by using the
joker-card. If you have just one or two cards left, and you know that
there must be a couple of deck cards left that can help you finish, it
is worth considering if you want to use the joker card, or try and play
it out with the deck cards.
CATCHING THE RUNNING SCARAB:
Every
once in a while, when you remove a card over a scarab symbol, a scarab
with a gem on its back will run out. If you can catch it before it
crawls back into its hole, you will get the gem and the bonus points for
it. Of course, chasing around after the bug can be a pain. To catch the
scarab easily, simply hold your mouse over its hole and wait for it to
crawl back. When it's almost back at the hole, just click a lot, and
quickly, and you'll catch it before it actually crawls in.
EXPLODING SCARABS:
While
I'm not certain how this trick exactly works, it seems that if there
are only a few cards left (near a scarab symbol) and you remove the card
over the scarab symbol, the remaining cards will also be removed. As I
said, I can't exactly pinpoint the rules regarding this, but when given
the choice between removing a card in the field, and a card on a scarab
symbol, go for the latter.
Congratulations!
